We’re here to guide you through the ins and outs of selecting the clubs that suit you best!    There is no absolute right or wrong answer when it comes to choosing clubs. However, it is worth noting that this decision may influence the persuasiveness of your college application. Hear us out. Clubs are a great opportunity for you to discover and cultivate your interests. If the club you choose is related to your intended field of study, your club experience can enhance your college application and increase your competitiveness. Below, we have organized some common clubs into different categories to help you put your best foot forward.     Students planning to pursue science and engineering fields, such as programming, physics, mathematics, chemistry, and robotics, should consider joining STEM-related clubs. 青少年心理學：幫助緩解憂鬱

憂鬱是人人都會感受到的情緒，當它對我們散發負能量時，如果能學會與之共處，就能培養更堅強的抗壓力。青少年時期的孩子經歷巨大的生理發展，賀爾蒙和神經系統迅速改變的同時，還要面臨升學壓力，在讀書、考試、課外活動與同儕社交之間周旋，找不到抒發壓力的管道甚至是傾吐的對象時，也不一定會主動尋求專業幫助，那麼負面情緒就會像滾雪球一樣不斷放大。   除了尋求適切方法，我們首先要認識青少年常見的憂鬱症症狀： 失眠 易怒 疲倦 專注力下降 罪惡感提升 感到極度絕望、空虛和憂慮 對周遭人、事、物興致缺缺   當憂鬱症發作時，負面想法就會跟進，不斷地卡在死胡同裡，反覆思索「為什麼只有我會遇到這種事？」又或是「我真的有好起來的那一天嗎？」為了阻絕自己陷入負面效應的深淵，可以嘗試以下幾種方法幫助重回正軌：   正念練習 Mindfulness  利用五感去察覺周遭的人、事、物，將注意力放在當下的體驗，而不是任由想法把自己吞噬。在練習正念時，盡量不要一次做很多件事，不論是吃飯、走路、運動、和朋友聊天散心，嘗試先專心把一件事做好，再仔細觀察這段過程帶給自己的感受與體會。除此之外，避免用形容詞來評斷事情，更別將自己的每個行為都貼上好或不好的標籤，只需要練習陳述事實本身。   TIPP 技巧 在行為療程中常用到的TIPP技巧，旨在幫助病患於高度壓力之下即時找到釋放管道。TIPP 分別代表 temperature（降溫練習）、intense exercise（高強度運動）、paced breathing（呼吸練習）、以及 paced muscle relaxation（肌肉放鬆練習）。   Temperature 降溫練習 此項練習是透過用冷水清洗臉龐以刺激我們的「潛水反應」，練習的過程中可以嘗試屏住呼吸，因為人在沒有氧氣的條件下進入冷水場域將會降低心跳頻率，進而減少負面情緒帶來的生理與心理反應。   Intense exercise 高強度運動 開始胡思亂想的時候，不妨試試高強度的有氧運動來轉移注意力。過程中要使我們的心跳達到該年齡最高心率的55% - 75%，以青少年為例，最高心跳約每分鐘200次，那麼進行高強度運動時可達到心跳每分鐘110-150下。研究指出如此的運動強度與正面情緒相關聯，也能改善負面情緒並降低胡思亂想的可能，記得運動長度最起碼要維持20分鐘才能達到預期效果。   Paced breathing 呼吸練習 呼吸在正念冥想亦是非常重要的一道步驟，雖然聽起來八股，實際上卻很有幫助！需要冷靜下來的時候先將呼吸放慢，一分鐘平均深吸、深吐約5-6次。此項練習能透過平緩的呼吸來調和神經交感系統，幫助身體找回平衡。   Paced muscle relaxation 肌肉放鬆練習 最後的肌肉放鬆練習必須與呼吸技巧搭配，才能達到最佳效果。在練習深深吐氣時，將身體的每個肌肉群也一起慢慢放鬆下來，同時注意身體的感受是否過於緊繃、或是長期處在高壓狀態。   Crisis Kit 心理急救箱 就像家裡常備創傷醫藥箱一樣，我們也可以準備一個心理急救箱，並置於觸手可及的地方，急救箱裡可以放對自己極具重要意義的物品，例如： 家人或親友的照片 旅行時拍攝的照片或想造訪的地方 想參加的活動 激勵人心的格言或卡片 能夠想起朋友的紀念品 正面的歌詞和歡愉的音樂 好笑的影片 在情緒低落時，透過這些小物品，提醒自己值得好好過生活的理由。   為了能夠更全面的輔佐青少年學生並陪伴其家長，我們的顧問不只在教育輔導方面深造，也會定期吸收心理學知識，然而，我們不是具有執業證照的心理諮商師或精神科醫師，如果孩子有需要，請不吝於向國高中的心理輔導室老師聯絡，並請家長協同尋求身心診所的專業幫助。 Read More

青少年心理學：釋放焦慮與壓力的方法

根據美國心理學協會（American Psychological Association），焦慮是一種結合緊張和擔憂的情緒，且會隨著心情起伏影響到血壓。人感到焦慮時，負面思緒會不斷回放，同時伴隨冒冷汗、發抖、頭暈、心跳加快等身理反應。焦慮雖然讓人感到不適，卻能幫助我們察覺危險，若能學會與之共處，就能培養堅強的韌性對抗壓力。   焦慮也時常被拿來與恐懼混為一談，但我們必須釐清當中的差別。在多數情況下，恐懼的生成是經由立即的危險造成的，譬如在森林裡看到熊會有想馬上逃離的意識。焦慮則是在有重大事件發生前產生的情緒，譬如明天一早要在全班面前報告，為了迴避內心的不安，我們會選擇請假在家。兩種情況皆會使我們的腦袋發出警告訊號，告訴我們危險近在咫尺，唯獨前者是會即刻造成生命安危、後者則是出自於我們的想像。   在學習處理焦慮之前，也該來認識相關的焦慮症狀以明白能如何應對，與焦慮常見的疾病包括： 對特定事物的恐懼症（Specific phobia） 社交焦慮（Social anxiety disorder） 恐慌症（Panic attack） 強迫症（Obsessive-compulsive disorder） 創傷症候群（Posttraumatic stress disorder ）   所幸焦慮是可以被控制和減緩的，雖然無法完全預防，我們可以透過以下幾種方式幫助自己找回信心：   Grounding 根植大地 與「接地冥想」非常雷同，透過跟草地和大自然的連結汲取地球能量，再搭配呼吸練習找回內心平靜。若是待在室內，也能用想像的方式進行，可以站著或坐著，深吸深吐，再複誦這段文字：   我的名字是＿＿＿，我今年＿＿＿歲。今天是＿＿＿（年/月/日）。我在＿＿＿（身處的環境），我很安全，我不活在過去，也不處在未來，在此前的這個當下，我很安全。地球和大自然都支持著我，身邊的親朋好友也賦予我力量，我並非獨自一人，我很安全。   Respiratory Control 呼吸練習 與TIPP技巧不同之處在於，此項練習不著重在深吸、深吐，而是單純透過鼻子進行。這道呼吸練習能幫助我們有效控制呼吸節奏，達到均勻呼吸的狀態。過程中只需仰賴鼻子，也不用刻意深吸、深吐，只需專注在呼吸這件事上即可。執行步驟如下：   吸氣、吐氣2-3次 憋氣1-2秒鐘 重複同樣動作直到心情平復為止   除此之外，也可以嘗試54321冥想技巧，將注意力放在周遭環境以保持冷靜，執行步驟如下： 指出五件目前看到的事物 指出四件目前可觸碰的事物 指出三件目前可聽到的人、事、物 指出兩件可聞到的事物 指出一件可嚐到的事物   記得焦慮是人人都會經歷的情緒，在特定的情況下若是能辨別它的功能，將為我們帶來許多益處。上台報告或演講前感到緊張也很正常，這時不妨試試以上幾種方法，當眼前沒有能對我們情緒造成立即威脅的事物時，焦慮便會巧巧消失。 Read More

歷時整整四年的疫情終於逐漸趨緩下來，期間調整的考試政策如今也將有所變化。自2020年開始取消的SAT學術能力測驗（Scholastic Aptitude Test），近期有越來越多國外大學決定於2024年申請2025入學的這一屆起，恢復這項考試制度，認為標化考試在評估申請資料時佔有舉足輕重的角色，包含了常春藤大學 Harvard、Yale、Dartmouth，曾經 test-blind 的 Cal Tech，還有德州旗艦大學 UT-Austin。   在各大學最新釋出的聲明裡，達特茅斯學院（Dartmouth College）的數據顯示，SAT搭配GPA綜合評估下來的結果較能幫助招生官用最客觀的角度判斷學生整體的學術表現。此外，該校也特別強調標化考試的重要性，尤其以SAT和ACT為關鍵，因為它們不只能幫助校方做出公正的決定，亦能為來自弱勢家庭的孩子提供更有利的申請證據。在匱乏的環境之下，若有學生因無法即刻取得更多學習資源而影響申請資料的不足，考試分數與在校成績將能彌補這個部分。哈佛大學（Harvard University）亦持類似觀點，並非每一位學生都有經費能參與課外活動，非富裕學區的高中也未必能開設AP等進階課程讓學生展現學術能力，但是，每一位孩子都有機會在考試上取得高分，因此將標化考試納入考量會為學生提供更公平的競爭機會。   再者，德州大學奧斯汀分校（ University of Texas at Austin）的校長提及，當多位候選人持有相近的GPA時，若有SAT成績可供參考，會大幅提升審核效率。耶魯大學（Yale University）對於恢復標化考試持有一樣的看法，表明優異的SAT或ACT分數確實能為學生的整體表現加分，且和加州理工學院（California Institute of Technology）一致認為考試分數能給招生委員更完整的資訊，讓招生委員快速辨別學生的學術程度是否能適應該校的學習強度。值得注意的是，在審閱學生的資料時，考試分數和在校成績具有同等的重要性，優異的考試成績並不會彌補低GPA的不足，太差的考試成績亦不會撤銷學生的申請資格。   順帶一提，UTA與Yale的內部資料分析結果顯示，比起未提供SAT成績讓招生官參考的學生，選擇繳交考試成績的另一群孩子在大學表現反倒更亮眼，因多數在大一取得的在校成績GPA皆高於未繳交SAT的學生。由此可見，考試成績對於大學招生官而言，是一項評估學生的學術水平以及未來發展性的重要指標。為了增加Holistic Review的公平性，UTA將採取相關措施以優化申請流程（參考如何舒緩放榜前的等待焦慮？），幫助學生減少升學壓力。因此，建議學生越早準備，就越能應付接下來申請大學會遇到的種種變化。同時也別過於焦慮，適時放鬆、做讓自己開心的事才有力量繼續向前走。 Read More
